SQUADS

These squads will be implemented from the 24th Februry 2020

Academy

Academy 1

Academy 1 is an introductory squad in to the structure of a swimming club from swim lessons. Minimum entry requirement is Stage 7. Key swim specific skills and water skills will be developed in all strokes prior to movement into Development Squad. These swimmers should attend the Skills Galas.

The squad swimmers gain competitive experience through club galas and appropriate external competitions including Level or League events once the coaches fell they are ready.

New swimmers with no competitive experience wanting to join the club are always welcome.

Academy 2

Academy 2 is an introductory squad in to the structure of a swimming club from swim lessons. Minimum entry requirement is Stage 7. Key swim specific skills and water skills will be developed in all strokes prior to movement into Development Squad. These swimmers should attend the Skills Galas.

Development

Development 1

Continuing development of stroke skills on all 4 strokes and introducing race skills. These swimmers are still predominantly taught with a gradual increase of stamina to ensure good technique and skills can be held over increased distances. Competition expectations: Club Galas.

Development 2

The Age Group squad provides the introduction of a progressive "training" structure (British Swimming: Learning to Train) to sessions with race and wall skills still being taught. Session will continue to develop stamina and speed work through all 4 strokes. Competition expectations: Club & League Galas + L3 open meets. The number and level of meets should increase with the progression of the swimmer through the squad). Overall aim of squad is to achieve County times.

Age Group 1

The Youth squad focus of training is now on training for races (British Swimming: Training to Train) using endurance, speed, threshold and introducing strength session (again, these will depend on where in the squad the swimmer is) in all 4 strokes, across all distances. Competition expectations: Club & League Galas + L1-3 open meets. Overall aim of squad is definite County entry times + 1-2 Regional Level events.

Age Group 2

The Youth squad focus of training is now on training for races (British Swimming: Training to Train) using endurance, speed, threshold and introducing strength session (again, these will depend on where in the squad the swimmer is) in all 4 strokes, across all distances. Competition expectations: Club & League Galas + L1-3 open meets. Overall aim of squad is definite County entry times + 1-2 Regional Level events.

Competitive

County 1

Continued training for races (British Swimming: Training to Train) using endurance, speed, threshold and introducing strength session (again, these will depend on where in the squad the swimmer is) in all 4 strokes, across all distances. Competition expectations: Club & League Galas + L1-3 open meets. Overall aim of squad is definite County entry times + 4-5 Regional events and looking to gain a place on National Ranking in the future. Swimmers will also perform speed endurance (lactate production) and strength endurance (lactate tolerance) sets along with endurance, speed work, and power.

County 2

Club Swimmers are 14yrs+ and swim for fitness or as part of other sports e.g. triathlon, aquathon, pentathlon. These swimmers will be placed in the appropriate lane and/or squad for their ability.

County 3

Continued training for races (British Swimming: Training to Train) using endurance, speed, threshold and introducing strength session (again, these will depend on where in the squad the swimmer is) in all 4 strokes, across all distances. Competition expectations: Club & League Galas + L1-3 open meets. Overall aim of squad is definite County entry times + 4-5 Regional events and looking to gain a place on National Ranking in the future. Swimmers will also perform speed endurance (lactate production) and strength endurance (lactate tolerance) sets along with endurance, speed work, and power. These allow swimmers to focus on developing their weaknesses identified within races and provides them with the concept of becoming more race specific.

Regional

Club Squads

Competitive Club (15+ years)

The Competitive Club is for those swimmers who have been with the Club for a number of years and would now like to reduce their training hours but continue competing from time to time. Swimmers can opt for either 2 or 3 sessions per week as agreed with the coaching team.

Competitive Masters (18+ years)

Stuart Whitehead

The Competitive Master is suitable for swimmers who cannot commit to more than two sessions per week but are keen to swim for the Club in team competitions. Again, sessions are agreed with the coaching team.

Masters (18+ years)

Stuart Whitehead

The Masters Squad is offered to anyone who would like to swim up to two mornings per week with training sets & coaching provided.
