Changes to ASA Competition Pathways
The ASA has released details of a new swimming competition structure that will allow a greater number of swimmers the opportunity to compete at a national level. This will obviously affect swimmers at Regional and County Levels as well and as some parents/swimmers are aware there has been a lot of debate and meetings at the ASA with regard to these changes. We do not have full details yet but we have provided some below to keep you all in the loop.
SmallChanges to the ASA Competition Pathway have now been agreed, and a document is available on SCM from the ASA website here.
In brief, there will now be three National Competitions. The British Championships (50m Pool), the ASA Winter Nationals (25m Pool) and the ASA Summer Nationals (50m Pool). The age of swimmers for all these competitions will be as at 31st December in year of competition. The British Nationals will be for 13 years and older. The Winter and Summer Nationals will be for 12 years and older. Regional Competitions will occur between mid March and the end of May and will be for 11 years and over, age as at 31st December in year of competition. County Competitions will occur between mid January and the end of February and will be for 10 years and over, age as at 31st December in year of competition. National Competitions start in the new format in 2015. The West Midland Regional Competition will be in the new format in 2015, although we are awaiting the final decision on this competition regarding times.
There has previously been a note about the impact on the County Competitions.
