Ledbury Swimmers delight at Gloucester and Cheslyn Hay

Ledbury & District swimmers had a busy two days of competition last weekend with teams travelling to Gloucester and Cheslyn Hay.

13 swimmers took part in the Level 2 Gloucester Open meet this year and produced a string of great performances, winning an impressive 18 medals between them. The meet was the last opportunity for swimmers to reach the West Midlands Regional Championship standard. Molly Schofield wasted no time in achieving her third qualifying time of the season in the 100m butterfly, taking a silver and bronze in her remaining races. Eve Watson continued her great form of late securing another three regional times along with an impressive 7 medals (1 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze). Anthony Davies came away with 2 gold and 4 silver medals from his eight events.

Attending an open meeting for the first time, 9-year olds Libby Gooden-Morris and Arthur Zenihov produced some very impressive swims with Libby winning gold in the 100m freestyle and Arthur a silver 50m freestyle. William Kennedy continued his great of form of late by achieving personal best times in all four of his races and gaining a regional time for the 50m butterfly.  New personal best times were also achieved by Martha Day, Emma Tillot, Ben Collins and Alice Lloyd, with season-best times from Lydia Freeman and club captain Bryn Batten. Sebastian Roffey took bronze in his age division of the 50m freestyle, just missing out on a regional qualifying time.

27 young swimmers travelled to Cheslyn Hay Swimming Pool, Walsall, to take part in the first round of the Nuneaton and District Junior Swimming League which consisted of 51 races on the day. Despite this being the first event outside of Ledbury's own pool for many of the younger members (including Juliette Ainsworth, Tegan Ballinger, Edie and Archie Griffiths, Lois James, Thomas Wilde and Arty Wilson-Spence) the team came away with an excellent 2ndplace finish, supported by Captains for the day Owen Wake and Rosie Loraine. An incredible atmosphere inside the pool helped Ledbury swimmers to an impressive 14 individual and relay race wins. Assistant coach Tom Stokes commented, "There was a fabulous team spirit here tonight and I was delighted to see the confidence building within our younger swimmers. The whole team should be proud of their efforts.” Final scores were Broadway 256, Ledbury 220, Stourbridge 178, Wolverhampton 129 and Telford 128.

The club train at both Ledbury Leisure Centre and Malvern College. Further information, including a form to request a trial, can be found at Ladasc.co.uk.
