Wyvern League 2016

Round 1 – Newport Intenational Sports Village

 

Round 1 Success

Ledbury and District swimming club went to Newport with high hopes for a new year with a team of determined swimmers. There were several new faces in the team and many experienced competitors. The challenge was great as City of Newport Swimming club had been victorious the previous year.

The team performed incredibly well and managed to secure a win with the total points as follows;

Ledbury 243

Newport 220

Abertillery 194

Torfaen 165

Chepstow 164

Blaenafon 124

 

The Wyvern League is a team event made up of 54 separate events both individual and relay. The age ranges form 9 year olds to 15 year olds. Ledbury gained 17 first places out of the 54 events which was less than Newport but it was the 16 second places gained that allowed them to take victory overall.

Ledbury was particularly successful in the relay events. Out of the 18 separate relay events they gained 10 first places and 6 second places which shows a real strength in depth throughout the club.

Individual winners included Tom Birley, Anthony Davies, Elliott Heath, Emily Russell, Eve Watson and Arthur Zenihov.

A special mention to first time competitors Anthony Davies, Libby Gooden-Morris, Martha Loraine, Honor Wake and Arthur Zenihov.
